Eolomea

The second movie I saw at the 70mm festival at Cinemateket was the east german sci-fi movie Eolomea made by Herrmann Zschoche in 1972. The movie is about 8 space ships which suddenly disappears near the space station Margot. Maria is a researcher who finds out from a rival researcher about a legendary planet called Eolomea.

This movie is not about special effects and I am grateful about that since I find most movies with space ships and good special effects boring. Still I enjoyed this. It is funny, got a great soundtrack and the movie is more about discussing moral questions we might have to take and this is done than flying a space ship.

2007 – New year, new movies and some old ones

2006 is history and for me it was a year when I watched some fantastic movies. My top five list of new movies is:

2007 have just begun and will try to update this site with movies i have seen this year.

Started this year with a dvd i have got in my collection for a couple of months. Seven Sword by Tsui Hark is a Hong Kong action adventure. 7 warriors with 7 swords comes together to defend a city from an army which are after to kill everyone knowing martial art. This movie got some great fighting scenes and a pretty good story. It feels a little bit slow and long, but overall it is a very good movie.

Yesterday I watched the epic classic Lawrence of Arabia at the 70 mm festival here in Oslo. It was the first time I saw this movie and what a movie. It blew me away. Especially the 70mm version. It was some of the most beautiful movie I ever have seen. 4 hours and every scene made sense. Just cannot believe that I have never seen this movie before.

Sideways. This is a charming movie from 2004 got nominated for the best motion picture in the academy awards. Miles and Jack having a stag week in California where they gonna taste wine and play some golf. Miles is a depressed, divorced, unsucsessfull writer with a love for pinot wine. Jack does not know anything about wine, but wants to have fun drinking and chatting up women before he is getting married. This was the second time I saw this movie and I found it funnier this time. The movie is fulled with good quotes and funny situations and everyone of them could easily be true.
