Ubuntu: Changing locale to iso88591

This was what I did when changing locale for a machine with Dapper Drake:

  • Add follwing line to your .bashrc
    LANG=en_US.iso88591
  • locale-gen en_US
  • Edit /etc/environment . Change LANG to en_US.ISO-8859-1
    sudo vi /etc/environment
    LANG="en_US.ISO-8859-1"
    LANGUAGE="en_US:en"
  • sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales
