Film from south festival
Film from south (Film fra sør) festival in Oslo is recently finished. This year festival focused on the Iranian director Kiarostami. Unfortuantly I have not been able to see any of his movies yet, but will try to see some of the the next couple of weeks at Cinematektet in Oslo. Still managed to see other movies and 2 of them made huge impact on me.
The first one was the Argentinian movie Elsa and Fred (Elsa y Fred). Elsa and Fred is a warm and funny movie about 2 old people falling in love with each other and behaving like teenager. I was very sceptical before seeing this movie. Is it one genre of movie I really hate then it is romantic comedy. This movie proved me wrong. I do like romantic comedy if the movie is like Elsy and Fred. Mainly because of brilliant acting. characters, script and cinematography. This movie also ended up winning the viewers award for best movie and got a honorable notice from the jury.
The second movie was a deeply disturbing film from India. Water is the last part of a triology by Deepa Metha. The film is set to the 1930 and is about Chuyia, a 7 year old girl, who becomes a widow and is sent to a house for widows. When a husbond dies then half of the wife dies and they must live a life isolated from the other world. Chuyia becomes a friend with one of the other widow, that one days meets and falls in love with a follower of Gandhi and vica versa. What I really liked with this movie except of the story was all the colours. Sometimes you almost want to cry because some of the scenes are so beatiful. Additional I really like the story. I find it very interesting that it is set during the period Gandhi protested against the English. One of the best movies I have seen.
